About Wellington
Brief History
The Wellington Machine Company was founded in 1879 in Wellington, Ohio and manufactured aluminum pots and pans, brick-making equipment and material handling carts. In the early 1900’s, Wellington narrowed its focus to casters and related products. By the early 1920’s Wellington recognized the need for an easier rolling, shock absorbing and floor protective wheel. In cooperation with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Wellington developed and introduced the first line of easy rolling moldon rubber-tired wheels which have become an industry standard. Other products designed and pioneered by Wellington include the demountable tire and rim wheel, leaf-spring shock-absorbing casters, the drum-and-barrel truck, and many other custom-built carts for job specific applications.
In 1984 Wellington’s operations were moved to Cincinnati, Ohio under new ownership. Many changes resulted including expanded product offerings and improved distribution. It was in 1987 that Wellington began sourcing some of their products directly from overseas suppliers. In 2003 Wellington became an affiliate of Colson Associates, Inc., a diversified and internationally recognized company specializing in the manufacture of casters, wheels, plastics, hardware and medical products.
As a result of Wellington’s long heritage and evolution, we now offer our customers a comprehensive range of casters and wheels for use in a wide variety of industrial, institutional and healthcare applications. We hope you’ll let us put our expertise to work for you soon—you’ll be glad you did!
